Efficient filtration for modern agriculture

At Agritechnica 2023, Hengst will be presenting a wide range of filtration solutions for conventional and alternative drives, mobile hydraulics and high-quality aftermarket products

Münster. Built for the highest demands: Agricultural machinery must function safely and trouble-free in daily use under adverse conditions. Reliable fluid management and modern filtration technology play a key role in protecting the engine and ensuring reliable operation. At Agritechnica 2023 in Hanover (Hall 17, Stand A25), Hengst will be showcasing its concentrated expertise and sustainable technologies. The filtration specialist and development partner of renowned manufacturers will be represented at the world's leading trade fair with filtration solutions for the vehicle and engine industry, mobile hydraulics, future drive and mobility concepts as well as with its broad aftermarket portfolio.

Blue.maxx - the high-performance fuel filter system also for alternative fuels

At Agritechnica, the company will be showcasing the modular Blue.maxx fuel filter system for conventional combustion engines. It ensures highly efficient Water separator and can be optimally adapted to the respective application. In this way, the efficiency of the engine can be sustainably improved.

Alternative fuels and their blends will also be increasingly used in the off-highway sector in future for environmental reasons. Aging effects of biofuels and their higher water absorption capacity can lead to operating problems.

Hengst has developed special test methods to optimally adapt the fuel filter system to alternative fuels. These are embedded in the entire process of developing advanced fuel filter systems and thus create the basic prerequisite for the reliability and longevity of modern engine filtration. One example of the products developed in this way is the innovative Blue.maxx fuel filter system. It consists of basic variants available as standard, which can be supplemented with special additional modules. An online configurator makes it easy to put together the right filter solution for the respective application. With innovations such as Blue.maxx, Hengst is creating the conditions for the global use of efficient and climate-friendly diesel engines with high availability, reliability and service life.

Sustainable filter solutions for future hydrogen drives

To support the use of the climate-friendly energy source hydrogen, Hengst has developed a modular system of various filtration solutions for commercial vehicles and off-highway applications. This consists of ion exchangers and cathode air filters for fuel cells as well as disc separators and active Crankcase Ventilation for hydrogen combustion engines, which ensure the service life, efficiency, performance and safety of the drive even under harsh operating conditions.

The coolant of a fuel cell is enriched with ions during operation, which are created by ageing products of the coolant itself or by components in the cooling circuit. Effective filtration is therefore necessary for the safe operation of the fuel cell. The Blue.iox ion exchanger from Hengst offers a particularly high level of protection with minimal maintenance. The unique design of the filter cartridge with axial filter flow and the special mixed-bed resin system for cation and anion exchange ensure high filtration performance over the entire service interval.

The air circuit of a fuel cell also places special demands on filtration. The intake air must be cleaned very effectively of particles from the outside air in order to ensure a long service life and high performance. In addition, pollutants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), ammonia (NH3) and sulphur oxides (SO2) can lead to unwanted deposits in the fuel cell and damage it. A specially developed Blue.netic Cathode air filter system from Hengst with a multi-layer structure reliably protects the components of the fuel cell from particles and harmful gases.

The requirements placed on filter systems for hydrogen engines are comparable to those of conventional petrol or diesel engines. However, the increased water ingress into the engine oil and the high flammability of hydrogen are additional challenges that need to be taken into account. Blowby gases, which enter the crankcase via the cylinders, form an explosive mixture at concentrations above 3.5 percent by volume, which ignites on hot engine components. The active ventilation system developed by Hengst minimizes the hydrogen concentration in the crankcase and counteracts the risk of ignition.

Blue.on Heavy Duty - the environmentally friendly alternative to spin-on filters

In the field of Oil Filtration, Hengst Filtration presents its sustainable filtration concept Blue.on Heavy Duty in a robust design. This is an alternative to the spin-on filter that enables tool-free replacement with 25 percent less weight and 90 percent less waste - ideal for making conventional drives even more sustainable.

Spin-on filters are widely used in agriculture and the entire filter unit is replaced every time the filter is changed. Actually, only the Filter Elements need to be replaced. However, the housing with the other functions is also disposed of, generating millions of tons of waste every year and thus an enormous environmental impact. Recycling does not usually take place due to the large number of materials used.

Hengst's answer to this environmental impact is the sustainable Blue.on HD filter concept. It consists of three components: A cover made of high-strength plastic, a Filter Elements and the valve adapter. The latter can be easily fitted to the existing spin-on interface. During tool-free replacement, only the used Filter Elements are disposed of - the rest remains in the vehicle, which means 90 percent less waste!

In the adapter, the engine-proof filter bypass valve ensures constant filtration performance over the entire service life of the engine. Damage caused by inadequate or even missing valves is therefore ruled out.

Whether original equipment or retrofit, the Blue.on HD is always a clever alternative for more sustainable filtration. The system can be adapted to the respective requirements with a variety of filter media. Patent protection can also be integrated on request - this protects against plagiarism and also secures the service business.

Powerful filtration for demanding applications in mobile hydraulics

The complete filters and Filter Elements for industrial and mobile hydraulic applications ensure reliable operation under extreme conditions. Agritechnica offers the ideal opportunity to present the technologically sophisticated and constantly growing range to the specialist audience.

Inline filters with the patented "Cyclone Effect" are a highlight in the hydraulics sector. They sustainably reduce operating costs while at the same time optimizing filtration performance. Heavy dirt particles are transported to the outside. Premature clogging of the Filter Elements is prevented.

The newly developed pressure filter, specially designed for use in closed hydraulic pump circuits with front connections and a machine-specific mounting concept, is particularly easy to maintain as it can be installed independently of the vehicle. The special "cross-flow" geometry ensures a low pressure difference and optimum flow conditions on the dirt side.

The Hengst hydraulic Filter Elements with "PURE POWER" offer another sophisticated technology. With comparable filtration efficiency and low differential pressure, they absorb up to 50 % more particles. All Filter Elements are equipped with an electrically conductive fleece as standard for charge exchange between oil and filter material.

The wide range of products in brand quality includes Oil filters, Fuel filters, Air filters, Cabin filters, Transmission oil filters and customized special filters from hydraulic oil filters to centrifuge oil filters.

Hengst has been a renowned development partner and supplier in the agricultural and construction machinery sector for many years. For example, the TCD 4.1 and 6.1 Agri in-line engines from Deutz are equipped with an Oil filter modules with heat exchanger and water pump from Hengst as standard. The engines are installed in tractors from the Deutz Agrotron series and the Fendt Vario 500, 700 and 800 series, among others. The Hengst Energetic® E470H D28 filter insert is used as a standard service part.

In addition to the E470H D28, Hengst is now offering the E470H01 D28. The decisive benefit is the service interval, which is doubled to 1000 hours with this new product. This optimization is possible thanks to a new high-performance medium with improved dust holding capacity and greater chemical resistance.
